The Ahrensbök Memorial invites you to a bike tour along the route of the death march taken by concentration camp prisoners 81 years ago on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The tour will be led and narrated by memorial staff member Sven-Michael Veit. 
The tour, which is about 20 kilometers long, begins and ends at the Ahrensbök Memorial. Stops include the “death barns” in Siblin and Sarau, the estate of the march’s commander, SS-Oberscharführer Max Schmidt, in Neuglasau, and the Ahrensbök Cemetery. The tour will focus on the 1945 death marches through East Holstein and the sinking of the ships “Cap Arcona” and “Thielbek” on May 3 in Lübeck Bay.  

Start: Wednesday, August 19, 2026, 10:30 a.m., Ahrensbök Memorial, Flachsröste 16.
Route: 20 km, approx. 3.5 hours (including a break at Café Sarau), partly on forest and field paths; participants must bring their own bikes
